Their weakness is their strength

Eve started it.  She desired wisdom.  The serpent had found her weak spot.  She told the serpent that she could not eat of the fruit in the garden.  God didn’t tell her why she couldn’t eat that desirable fruit, and being a woman, she wanted to know why she couldn’t.  The snake filled her in.  “God knows that when you eat it, you will be like God, and know good and evil.”  She gained her wisdom. No longer do we hear that women want to be god-like. However, there is a resurgence of men who want to be like God, and who desire to be Lord over women.

Sarah laughed at the angel when she heard through the tent wall that she was to have a baby at an age when women do not have children.  She became the mother of nations.

Mary was told by the angel Gabriel that she would bear the Messiah.  She told him that she had never known a man, and wanted to know how it could be. After the angel Gabriel explained what would happen, Mary made her decision.  “I am the Lord’s servant. May it be to me as you have said.”

A gentile woman called out to Jesus “Lord, Son of David, have mercy on me! My daughter is suffering terribly from demon possession.” Jesus did not respond.  She continued “Lord, help me!” Finally Jesus told her that it was not right to take the children’s bread and toss it to their dogs.” Most of us would have been highly insulted, but this courageous woman argued back with the Teacher himself. “Yes, Lord. But even the dogs eat the crumbs that fall from their master’s table.”  Jesus honored her determination “Woman, you have great faith! Your request is granted.” Her daughter was healed immediately.

Mary arrived at the tomb having no idea how she and the other women would remove such a large stone.  When she saw Jesus standing there, and not knowing who he was, she pleaded with him, “They’ve stolen my Lord.  Please tell me where he is and I will go get him.

There is a song “I am weak, but Thou art strong. Jesus, keep me from all wrong. I’ll be satisfied as long – as I walk, let me walk close to Thee.”

Will you help other women keep close to God and help them understand that even though they are told they are weak in spiritual and in physical ways, that God can use their weakness for their strength as long as their heart is right with God?
