Male headship has climbed into the lifeboats

Today I met a woman who had been abused by her husband. She was holding a bag of groceries from the food pantry and telling me that she had just escaped her abusive husband.  She pointed to the scar on her chin that she said was the result of her husband throwing her out of the car some time in the past. The abuse kept up until last week she could take no more. Taking the small children, she fled with just the clothes on their backs.

I thought of Dr. Al Mohler and his little tale of Women and Children First? A Tale of Two Ships. In this story he says: “Women and children first. Civilization itself depends upon this kind of moral knowledge. Without it, the entire enterprise of human civilization is destined to sink beneath the waves”

Dr. Mohler, the ship is sinking. The men have climbed into the lifeboats and have pushed the women and children out!

Not more than 3 hours later another young woman told me of her marriage to a Catholic man – she was not a Catholic – and she said he told her that he owned her. He convinced his priest that she was evil, and during the marriage counseling, the priest paced the floor and told her all the things that she had to do. The priest had already made up his mind, and she was the one who was failing.

Read what Bob Edwards wrote in the comments of my blog: “I just listened to a speaker, who happened to be a woman, telling other women that it is in their spiritual DNA to be more prone to error than men. Because of this, she said, women need a godly husband to submit to.  I also just listened to two extremely well-known male speakers (pastors) telling their congregations that God made women to serve men. They are designed to be subordinate, and any attempt to usurp man’s God-given authority is evidence of the curse found in Genesis chapter 3.”

Dr. Mohler, the ship is sinking. The men have climbed into the lifeboats and have pushed the women and children out!

I am reading a book called The Meaning of Marriage by Timothy Keller with his wife Kathy Keller. He is pastor of a mega fundamentalist Presbyterian church which means men are in control.  The book, of course, emphasizes that. Wife Kathy writes “To what role must he (husband) submit? To that of savior, a servant-leader, who uses his authority and power to express a love that doesn’t even stop at dying for the beloved.”

Unless he kills her first.  Which is the more likely scenario.

Dr. Mohler, the ship is sinking. The men have climbed into the lifeboats and have pushed the women and children out!

Margaret Mowczko posted this on her blog: “On the 25th of August the Sydney Morning Herald reported that, “BRIDES will be promising to submit to their husbands under a new marriage vow the Anglican diocese of Sydney is expected to approve at its synod in October.”

Marg goes on to say “An observer could think that the Sydney Anglican Church’s desire to promote female submission is stronger than the desire to promote the gospel.”

Dr. Mohler, the ship is sinking. The men have climbed into the lifeboats and have pushed the women and children out!

Mohler holds up the sacrificial act of the men of the Titanic and compares it to the survival instinct of those aboard the Lusitania. “Aboard the sinking Lusitania, the scene was very different. Women and children were less likely than men to survive that disaster, because the men used their natural strength and speed to take the spaces on the lifeboats, with women and children forced out of their way”

Dr. Mohler, the ship is sinking.  Male headship has climbed into the lifeboats and civilization is sinking beneath the waves.

On September 8, 2012, the Christians for Biblical Equality Houston Chapter will hold their second public meeting for women’s equality. Dr Gerald Ford, a Licensed Professional Counselor and Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, will be our speaker. Join with us! We are speaking out for women and for families.  Men, speak out with us against those men who think they are gods, and who abuse their wives and families.

Great analogy. Essential to the health of any civilization is the health of each individual in it. Where one group claims power over another and truncates their rights, infection sets in.

Thank God when Jesus went to the cross for the “curse” He included “women’s curse” as well. If this were not true, we ought to make sure, then, that men still pay for Adam’s transgression, as both Adam and Eve sinned.

Thank God, however, that “whom the Son has set free is free, indeed”–both women and men.
    Blessings,

Ah, Tim Keller. Welcome to the PCA. Church of the Redeemer, Presbyterian Church in America, New York.

I’ve visited that website, and from what I can tell, the false gospel of gender roles is alive and well there. If I recall correctly, it is one of the PCA churches that recognizes the call of women to be deacons (who take care of the day-to-day running of the church, eg., finance committed), but not elders (who are responsible for the spiritual health and direction of the church). In which case, if they recognized women’s calls to be elders, it would probably play out a lot like things do in the SBC these days when a woman’s giftings from God are recognized: The church would probably be thrown out of the denomination.

I am sorry to read the confirmation that this church is like the rest when it comes to marriage. Also, I don’t know how you can stand to read this kind of {deleted}, so…more power to you!

    • I saw this book at the library a few weeks ago (I wouldn’t buy it!) and almost slammed it down when I picked it up. But then I decided that I needed to know what they were saying. I had Don my husband read a paragraph last night and he was shocked. He said he had never heard of such a thing. It is a priceless paragraph and I am going to use it in my book. You’ll have to read my book “Dethronig Male Headship.”
