Lean away from the Taliban

Guest post by Don Taylor

Why lean toward the Taliban? I am talking about these brutal savage men in Afghanistan and Pakistan who own their women and treat them almost like cattle. Yes, these barbarians who murdered a medical team who came to their country to restore eyesight to the blind or nearly blind. The barbarians who like to behead or stone to death those who in their perverted world, have sinned against Allah.

I cannot tolerate this kind of behavior.  Not in the tiniest degree.  That means that I cannot condone treatment of women that makes them inferior to men.  No back of the bus. No “you can’t be a deacon or pastor in your church” kind of thing. No “your husband is boss and you had better submit to him.”

The Taliban so outrages me that I want to go in the opposite direction. I want women to be free of these manmade restraints.  And they are manmade.  Jesus never put restraints on women. He encouraged them to teach and spread the gospel. Only these ‘verse pickers’ have done that to them.

Thank you for pointing this out Don. You are right. The mentality is the same– the difference is only in degree. Women are less than men. Complementarians try to hide this, even from themselves, but that’s really the bottom line.

I would like references to the verses (in context) where Jesus tells women to go out and teach and spread the gospel. Not that women can not, but I can not find them. Thanks.

    • Welcome! I am glad you joined in this discussion. The post you are commenting on was written by my husband. I believe this presents a dilemna, doesn’t it?

I think you are trying to trap me just as the Pharisees wanted to trap Jesus (I’m not Jesus and don’t pretend to be), but with much experience I am sure that is what you are trying to do. You want me to give you a chapter and verse where Jesus says “Women, you can go out and teach my gospel to men.” So you can say “Ah-ha, there is no such scripture.”

You are right. There is also no scripture that says “Women, you CAN NOT go out and teach my gospel to men.”

Please join us again. Meanwhile I will go and ask my husband how I should respond, because after all, if I read you correctly, I should learn quietly at home from my husband.
