Is man divine?
Now, either the Schools of Divinity are ignorant, or they want you to be. The scriptures they use to proclaim MALE HEADSHIP do not give man divinity, but their interpretation of them, does. Let’s play a game. Every preschool child is taught to look at similar objects and find the one that does not fit. So let’s do that with 1 Corinthians 11:3.
Example: Which fruit does not belong: a grapefruit, an apple, an orange. (Answer) The apple doesn’t belong because both the grapefruit and the orange are citrus fruits.
Which one does not belong in 1 Corinthians 11:3?: “..the head of every man is Christ, and the head of the woman is man, and the head of Christ is God.” (Answer: Christ and God are divine. Man is not. So the head of the woman is man does not belong. ) Why did Paul insert that in this scripture? Here he was giving the women an illustration that they would understand. Read down below for an explanation for Ephesians 5:22-24.
The Danvers Statement on Biblical Manhood and Biblical Womanhood seeks to give Divinity to man. And Baptists are swallowing it like nectar.
Now lets look at another scripture used to give man divinity.
“Wives, submit to your husbands as to in the Lord, For the husband is the head of the wife as Christ is the head of the church, his body, of which he is the Savior. Now as the church submits to Christ, so also wives should submit to their husbands in everything…….(32) This is a profound mystery-but I am talking about Christ and the church. However, each one of you also must love his wife as he loves himself, and the wife must respect her husband.”
Paul was speaking in his present time. He was just repeating a condition that existed. They knew it, and they understood it. So when he uses this example of women submitting to their husbands, he is talking about how they were already living. He carries it a little further and explains that this is the way they are to submit to Christ, who is the head of the church. He sums this up by saying that he is talking about the church, and that each one of the men must love their wife, and the wife must respect her husband.”
That time has passed. In this instruction, Paul is not speaking to us today. He is simply giving them an instruction with an example that makes it easier for them to understand. If he were to stand before a 21st century woman, he would use a different example.
In all of these explanations, Paul is saying “Look, following and obeying Christ, is like a marriage between a husband and a wife.” And we know in those days, the husband held all the advantages (just as Jesus does), and the woman really only brought her money and obedience to a marriage. She would understand this concept perfectly. Notice, he doesn’t tell the wives to love Christ.
Fast forward 2000 years, women are not property today. Women were denied rights until recently, but we have forgotten how completely men controlled the marriages. They will again if the authors and promoters of the Danvers Statement on Biblical Manhood and Biblical Womanhood have their way.
Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Ft Worth has adopted the Danvers Statement (see other posts regarding this). This statement proclaims the divinity of man. So is SWTBS a School of Ignorance?
